DOWNTOWN — Yesterday the San Diego History Museum added a recently discovered image to its 1940s photo gallery, which some say will lead historians to a “significant breakthrough” in determining the origin of douchebags.
San Diego historians are excited because the photograph predates the Los Angeles History Museum’s famous ‘douche bag skeleton’ exhibit, which features the skeletal remains of a Pasadena man previously thought to be the very first douchebag.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling knowing that the first douchebags likely originated in San Diego,” said Linda Reinhold, lead historian at the San Diego History Museum.
She went on to explain that the photograph reinforces the popular ‘gym-bar-tan’ theory: a theory formulated by cultural anthropologists, claiming the first douche emerged in 1942, as a side effect of building a gym, bar, and tanning salon within 50 feet of each other on Garnet Ave.
“There were no Hummers in the 1940s,” explained Reinhold. “Douchebags had to be able to walk to their douchy destinations,” she added. ”Most of the douchebag population eventually moved to LA in the 1980s, however you can still spot a few at Moondoggies’ Thursday Night Happy Hour.”

My second favorite article yet, right after the Denny’s one. Love the skeletal remains.
Long live Douchebagland!
When I moved out here from Michigan, I didn’t realize I would be living in the epicenter of douche-ness! I should have noticed the obvious. Now I have something to brag about to my friends back home!
Casey, the reason why San Diego is the epicenter of douchebags is because 75% of the people are from other states like Michigan (i.e. all the thick rope necklaces, barb wire tats, Abercrombie & Fitch boardshorts, etc.)
