CARMEL MOUNTAIN RANCH — Yesterday a 63-year-old man named Richard Jennings did what many have said is impossible — he somehow managed to infiltrate the Carmel Mountain Costco by sneaking past the Costco card checker guy at the front entrance.

“Thousands have tried over the years, but up until now, no one has succeeded,” said Barry Whitfield, manager of the Carmel Mountain Costco.

Costco card checkers go through a rigorous training program, where hundreds of ‘pretend customers’ will enter the store at the same time.  In order to get certified, the card checker in training must identify each and every person approaching the entrance without a membership card, and prevent them from getting into the store.

“A trained card checker can spot someone with a Costco card (or lacking one) from a mile away, which makes Jennings’ entrance really astonishing,” said Whitfield.

After passing the card checker, Jennings reportedly walked around the store several times, and partook in a total of 27 free samples (which included four Pasta Prima Spinach Ravioli Triangles and three shots of Yoplait Yogurt).

He then attempted to purchase a 24-pack of sponges, but was denied at the register because he wasn’t a Costco member, so he left store.

InterviewAfter learning about his remarkable story, San Diego’s KGTV news team contacted Jennings, and arranged an exclusive interview with him at his Poway estate.  Veteran KGTV reporter Fred Roberts started the interview by asking Jennings the one question on everyone’s mind: Exactly how did he manage to get past the Costco card checker guy at the front entrance?

Jennings explained, “Uh, I just kinda walked right in…the card checker guy didn’t really do anything to stop me.”

Outraged after hearing this, Costco CEO Jim Sinegal announced that every Costco store will take extra measures to ensure that no one is able to get inside without a membership card.

Sinegal frantically stated, “Our samples are sacred, which is why we guard the entrance. We can’t have non-members or hobos coming in the store and eating them.”

Sinegal added, “To prevent this from happening again, each Costco card checker will be trained in mixed martial arts, have several firearms, as well as a Costco card sniffing dog.”

I really don’t understand the big deal about this story … I’ve walked right into several Costco stores without a membership card and without anyone saying a word to me. Don’t think this is a worthy news story ………
